Netadmin helps build first open-access city network of Latvia

Swedish company Netadmin Systems, in cooperation with Alcatel-Lucent, has been trusted to deliver a software system that automates operational and business processes to Latvenergo AS.

Latvenergo Group is a public utility company whose core business is the production of electricity and thermal energy. In addition, the company provides telecommunications and IT services. The IT&T division of Latvenergo AS has developed the fiber-based cable infrastructure and offer various kinds of communications services to service providers and operators. The developed network infrastructure secures economically beneficial conditions for the operators and eliminates the necessity of creating network infrastructure for each operator.

“Taking part of a growing market is very exciting, as is sharing experiences gained from a large number of projects concerning open-access broadband networks in Sweden and other countries,” said Anders Lindén, CEO of Netadmin Systems. “Our product solves many of the problems network owners face when opening up their networks to various service providers. To the network owners, this results in a faster time-to-market and considerably lower costs for operations and establishment.”

“Our open-access broadband network creates preconditions for honest competition and offers wider opportunities for the operators’ end users to choose the service provider,” said Alfrēds Asars, Director IT&T Strategic Development of Latvenergo AS.

The service includes installation and deployment of a complete system for business and operations process automation in an open access fiber-based broadband network.

Netadmin’s fully automated system is very advantageous to users and network owners alike. End users can choose from desired broadband services and order the chosen services from the service provider. The service provider can give them access to the services immediately. Possible features include desired bandwidth, choice of internet service provider, and the option to temporarily subscribe to a certain TV channel. To the network owner, the system means considerably reduced operation costs and/or the ability to handle multiple times the current number of service subscribers using only existing resources. It also provides necessary flexibility when new service providers are connected and when new services, such as IP telephony or HDTV, are launched.
