For network operators and retail service providers, the product catalog is at the heart of daily operations. It serves as the central repository for all offerings, pricing structures, and service configurations that drive both sales and provisioning processes. As businesses grow and evolve in today's competitive telecommunications landscape, managing this catalog becomes increasingly complex.
Over time, as offerings expand, technology advances, and market demands shift, many organizations face significant challenges:
-
Are all products correctly configured?
-
Which offerings are still active and relevant?
-
Are pricing, marketing details, and other metadata consistent and up to date?
With new technologies, promotions, network consolidation, and partner onboarding, navigating a large and complex catalog can become cumbersome. This often leads to reduced operational efficiency, which in turn impacts the business.
To address these challenges in B2C, B2B, and B2B2X environments, Netadmin worked closely with key customers and involved UI/UX and backend developers early in the process to design a tool that simplifies how all types of operators, whether wholesale, retail, or both, manage their product catalogs. The result is the Product Explorer.
The process of bringing the Product Explorer to life is explained in our recent article, “From Customer Insight to Innovation: The Road to Product Explorer.”
Designed for Real-World Catalog Management
At first glance, the Product Explorer may appear to be just another list view. In reality, it introduces a new way to navigate and manage product data, offering a blend of a list view and a tree view. This lets users both see the big picture and drill down into details, whether exploring products from the top down or starting at individual offerings. The tool also offers extensive, easy-to-use filtering capabilities, accessible directly within the list or through a dedicated filter panel.
Two tailored modes support different business models:
-
Wholesale mode helps operators manage complex scenarios where multiple Retail Service Providers’ offerings coexist in a shared catalog.
-
Retail mode is optimized for managing special promotions, bundles, and ever-changing retail offerings.
Key Features
-
Combined list and tree view: See pricing, agreements, marketing, and campaign details in one organized interface.
-
Flexible navigation: Explore product compositions top-down or bottom-up to understand how products and bundles connect.
-
Rich search and filtering: Apply filters at any level of the catalog tree and save configurations for quick reuse.
-
Configurable views: Toggle categories like marketing details or hide columns that aren’t relevant.
-
Quick actions: Clone existing offerings, create bundles, and perform other common tasks directly within the view.
-
Perspective switching: Wholesale operators can act as a specific Retail Service Provider to see the catalog from their perspective.
Practical Use Case Examples
-
Verify that active offerings are still valid and correctly published to customer portals.
-
Compare marketing metadata or pricing across offerings to ensure consistency.
-
Identify new wholesale offerings made available to a Retail Service Provider.
-
Quickly find active promotions tied to a standard product.
-
Easily create new offerings by cloning or bundling existing products.
‘‘The new Product Explorer was developed from real-world requirements of telcos, showing the strength of the close collaboration we strive for with all our customers. This tool advances product catalog management to a new level of efficiency, making everyday tasks easier for any network operator or service provider managing a growing catalog.’’
— Victor Andersson, Product Operations Manager at Netadmin
