Relieve & Unburden

Increased productivity & efficiency of the customers' organization is the assignments' main benefit and objective. Beyond AMS' core tasks, other operational tasks could be included that positively affect reducing customer operation.

E.g., related ticketing system, monitoring specific data for duplicates, access right management for users, change/release management, test environment management, performing data extracts.

Monitor & analyze

Continuously monitoring system performance is essential to benchmark system operation, detect and analyze deviating patterns, and identify potential upcoming issues early.

This involves, e.g., system resources like CPU, memory, disk, database table health, job execution, SSL certificates, etc.

Prevent & avoid

Based on identified issues and/or deviations. Measures are taken to avoid potential future operational disturbances.

Deviations could e.g., be logs with ominous warnings, fast-growing tables, graphs with deviating patterns, new levels of jobs in a certain state, etc.

Suggest & improve

In cooperation and with customer involvement, proactive and perfective improvements are discussed before being implemented.

As a result of the monitoring and analyzing part, there are often wise and recommended measures to take to make sure obstacles are cleared early on to preserve or improve performance.

Optimize

As a result of deeper insight and understanding in business operation and processes, constructive ideas of how to optimize parameters, flows, and queries are discussed with the customer, and agreed measures are implemented.

Manage & report

A monthly report covering system status and health and actions carried out is produced and presented.

Netadmin AMS - Scope Overview.

Area of monitoring / Watchdogs

If applicable install and use for the installation in mind.

In base scope

States if this is a part of the base scope of ams.

Report

Will the output be presented in some form of a report?

Logs

Is there a log file to trace the activities of the function?

Graphs

Is the information presented in any form of a graph?

Alerts

Will there be alerts sent out for warnings and errors?

Description

What are the reasons and gains of using the functionality?

Database health

Error-log changes incl. Crashed tables

Catch potential and actual issues quickly by continuously watching MySQL's own error log and alert if appropriate. Might also include existing replicas

Global Status trends

Shows MySQL's own status trends, making it easy to understand how e.g. the Queries/Locks, etc have changed over time and possibly act on it.

Slow-query logging.

Monitoring of slow database queries in the system in order to find solutions to avoid them in the future, keeping the system swift and responsive when the tables/data grow.

Slow-query analyses with recommended changes.

2

Two times a year, AMS will perform manual analyzes of the MySQL slow query-log to evaluate whether it's recommended to act on any of the frequently occurring slow queries - to optimize system performance.

Table size growth.

Keeps an eye on the table size growth for both data and the number of rows to make sure no tables reach unhealthy levels. Facilitates the work of finding possible sources of spamming.

Slave/Replica Syncronization status.

1

Avoid ending up with a replica database that is not in sync with the source database for some reason!

Verification of Slaves/Replicas using Checksum.

1

If the Master/Slave setup has been running for quite some time, it might be wise to verify the databases and perform some checksum comparisons, to make sure they still actually are identical.

Performance & assurance

Backup-files monitoring.

Make sure that the backup-files actually are created and that the possibly remote (NFS) destination folder is actually online.

BatchJob execution Schedule overview.

2

Two times a year, AMS will make sure that scheduled batchjobs are not all running at the same time, which may slow down the functionality related to the tables used.

BatchJobs in ACK-state changes.

Keep an extra eye on the batch jobs in the system, making sure no important job has stopped and waiting for an acknowledgment.

Netadmin Engines' performance and queues.

Produces graphs of how the Netadmin Engines perform and the system load over time.

Netadmin-servers' availability and health.

Send alerts if the Netadmin-servers are struggling with CPU, MEM or disk, etc.

Web Certificate Expiration.

Monitor expiration dates of the web servers' SSL certificates. Expired certificates might result in stalled communication.

Unsent messages.

Keeps an eye on the unsent messages in the system and alerts if there are more messages than usual waiting to be sent for some reason.

Customer Assistance

Customer-specific Operational tasks.

Optional 3 3 3 3

If you have recurring, operational tasks, it might be included in the AMS scope, for you to focus on other important business.

Important Custom Parameters.

Optional 3 3 3
