Project

Business Intelligence Data Warehouse.

Project Background

Netadmin's customers have expressed a significant need for creating reports and dashboards based on their operational system data. Since reports can be resource-intensive when run against production databases, a best practice approach is to implement a separate database for reporting purposes.

The current Netadmin database structure can be challenging to understand without extensive experience with the system. We aim to offer customers a simple way to create their own reports without depending on our consultants, though consulting services will remain available as an option.

To address these needs, we are developing a dedicated data warehouse with user-friendly table and column names along with appropriate foreign keys. This will make it significantly easier for Netadmin users to create their own reports while ensuring the production database remains unaffected by reporting activities.

Our solution includes commonly requested metrics to provide immediate value. After evaluating various business intelligence tools, we've selected Metabase - a well-established open-source system known for its intuitive interface and powerful capabilities.

Implementation Phases:

We're implementing this solution in phases, progressively expanding the data warehouse with additional datasets:

  • Phase 1: Customer information, addresses, orders, products, and subscriptions
  • Phase 2: Hardware, tickets, work orders, sites, services, monitoring data, logs, messages, billing information, and device interfaces
  • Future phases: Additional data currently existing in the system

Key Metrics

For the first phase, we're focusing on including these important metrics:

Generic KPI Metrics

  • Network Build-out Progress (NBOP): Tracks build-out advancement by measuring addresses per build-out status over time
  • Network Utilization Rate (NUR): Aggregates and counts addresses based on installation status
  • Homes Passed (HP): Shows the total number of homes passed
  • Subscriptions per Product (SPP): Displays subscription counts organized by product

Wholesale/B2B2C Operator Specific Metrics

  • Take-Rate Per Area (TRPA): Measures the proportion of households connected through any service provider, critical for assessing network financial viability by area
  • Addresses/Subscribers per Service Provider: Counts addresses with subscriptions from each service provider

Vertically Integrated Network Operator Metrics

  • Take-rate (TR): Shows the percentage of passed households subscribing to operator services, directly linked to revenue and profitability
  • Churn Rate: Tracks the percentage of customers leaving over specific periods, critical for long-term customer value and retention strategies
  • Customer Acquisition (CA): Measures new customers gained over given periods, functioning as the counterpart to churn.

Future Development

Our vision includes expanding datasets, metrics, and introducing new tools including AI-powered analytics:

  • AI analysis for identifying solutions and root causes to different detected issues
  • Extended metrics including:
    • Detailed tracking of activations, deactivations, and active subscriptions within specific periods
    • Response time metrics (First Response Time, Average Response Time)
    • Business vs. Private customer segmentation
    • Work order and ticket tracking
    • Network availability and Mean Time To Resolution
    • Customer Acquisition Cost and contractor performance metrics
  • Role-specific metric dashboards tailored to different user needs
